TOP 10 THINGS I KNOW TO DO WHEN STEPPING INTO YOUR DREAM

10. BETTER TOGETHER.

The dream begins with us in its conception and incubation.  It starts with what we want and what we desire.  Stepping out into the dream begins the contractions, pains and pushes of the birth.  Once birthed, the dream is no longer ours alone to hold and carry. It’s no longer about us.  It is connected to others and for others.  We are created and designed for relationship.  Because we are better together, keep your passenger seat available for those who will travel with you in the journey. You may be the one who helps them get to where they are going as you travel along your path.  And they may be the help you need as you navigate the seasons and situations along your path.

9. PACK LIGHT AND BRING A KITE

At a time when airlines charge extra for checked bags and TSA security lines move slow to the sounds of plastic bins being filed with three ounce bottles of liquids and lap top computers, all while barefooted people move through the scanners, travelers weigh what they want to pack against the inconveniences those wants may bring. It’s the same, as you journey towards your dream.

PACK LIGHT—Bring only what you need. Don’t journey with the head and heart baggage that slows you down and causes you to hold on too tight. The past is spent futures, so leave it behind. What you are familiar with will become cumbersome as you walk forward.

BRING A KITE—There’s something about a kite that keeps us childlike, playful and aware of the winds that empower us to soar.  Kites are not heavy and they don’t take up much room.  They keep us playful, lighthearted and loose gripped while we play in the wind.  The journey is a joyful one, so take time to play along the way.

8. ON THE FLY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE

Before the dream, you lived life on the expressway where two-wheel drive powered your movement; slight adjustments were made with power steering and cruise control kept your momentum while you skated along familiar roads.  The terrain was well paved; travel lanes were well defined and mile markers, available service signs and exit ramps marked the roadsides.  Life was almost automatic pilot.  You could watch a DVD as you moved through life.

Dreams take you off-road.  It’s a new terrain and will require more power from the drive train, 10 and 2-hand placement on the steering wheel to maneuver the turns and a footing that is sensitive and alert.  There will be times you will have to engage the On-the-Fly four-wheel drive.  Dreaming is an xtreme sport.

7.  CELEBRATE WHILE YOU NAVIGATE

It is a new route.  You’ve not been this way before.  Be sure that you stop and see the sights.  Take in the experiences and people you meet along the way.  See how far you’ve come and all the valuable things you’ve seen and gleaned.  Make a point to acknowledge the changes and where you are.

As we follow our dreams, our dreams chart a course, and that course begins to shape and mold us in preparation to further meet our dreams.  Dreams pull us out into wide-open spaces.  That unfenced area reveals our character and gives us opportunity to mature and qualify us to steward and handle the power of the dream.  Celebrate the journey.  Change comes to enlarge our lives. It’s a good thing.

6.  HEAVEN AND EARTH

We know that a GPS is a sure help in locating and leading us as we travel.  Its signal is received from the heavens and is precise to the latitude and longitude of our location. Yet, when its power source is depleted by the unexpected or its signal is hindered, reaching for a map, charted in reference to where we are located on the earth, is a faithful back up

When challenges drain the power source of our imagination, memory and understanding, we can loose site of where we are and where we are headed.  Our head and our hopes become cloudy.  The written vision is the faithful back up to keep us moving through challenging times.

5.  COMPLIMENT, DON’T COMPARE

Those that dream, meet other dreamers.  In those moments and encounters celebrate, admire and champion the dreams, courage and chase of those you meet.  Do not compare your dream, destiny, determination or duty.  It will cause you to loose focus and drain the energy you will need to meet  the challenges that await you.  Compliment—encourage and empower other dreamers.  It will thrust you forward and cause others to do for you what you have done for them.

4. BE AWARE, DON’T STARE

Our eyes have both center gaze and peripheral vision.  We understand the priority of focus—keeping our line of sight on where we are going.  Focus isn’t a stare.  It’s a purposed gaze centered on a target.  When we focus, our field of view is aware, of the far, mid and near peripheral.  Without it we have tunnel vision.  Tunnel vision will cause us to miss out on the view of the ride, people who come along side of us, and opportunities we need to experience.  Focus will allow our peripheral vision to function well, to take note, be aware of distractions and identify counterfeit opportunities. Focus, looking up and out on purpose will keep us from collision and help us walk the path in balance.

3.  EYE-HAND COORDINATION

It’s part of human development and with practice becomes an automatic-pilot type of response that allows us to function and perform tasks at a higher level of accuracy. What your eye sees, it can grab.

Writing your dream allows your eye to communicate the dream to your hand.  The more that exchange takes place, the more easily the hand automatically reaches out, with precision, for the things that it knows to be viable to the dream.  Give your hand a part to play.  Write the dream.  Write the vision.

2. MEDITATE ON WHAT YOU ARTICULATE

Being specific is critical.  Just like color, textures, scents and tastes mark our minds, details that describe motive, passion, activity, purpose and joys will mark your heart.  A hope deferred makes the heart sick and weak.  When you keep the dream and images fresh before you, faith and hope will be powerful forces in getting you moving.  A strong heart is required to follow a dream.

And…the Number One thing I know to do when stepping into your dream….

1. ‘BE’ IS THE KEY

Anyone can get into a car, lock the seatbelt, adjust the mirrors and set the GPS’s course. But without the key in the ignition, no one will be moving.  Knowing who you are, who you ‘BE’—your God design, talents, gifts, ability, heart, motive and cause, is what will cause your dream to ignite.  It’s the natural result.  Your ‘BE’ is the power of your ‘DO’. It will empower you to enter into lands of promise, face giants, pull down traditions, and wash the feet of people you meet along the way.  It’s why you have your dream.  It’s the gift and a calling of your BE on the earth.
